Dollar Store Craft Challenge-- Using Fake Flowers to Welcome Spring
When I saw the fellow bloggers had posted a Dollar Store craft challenge I thought this would be a fun craft for my boys and I to participate in. We're always looking for new crafting ideas and I loved the idea of trying to create something from dollar store supplies.
My younger two boys ended up making some fabulous spring crafts using fake flowers (and other assorted supplies) from the Dollar Store. They did a fabulous job and I hardly helped at all!

Intelligent Domestications • Two Chicks & A Mom
Our only rule or guideline to go by was to "create a project using at least one or more items found at the Dollar Store." It sure sounded simple enough but walking through the isles of the store found us completely stumped on what to try!
My middle son saw a grapevine wreath and some fake flowers and wanted to try making a pretty wreath. My youngest son also liked some of the fake flowers and asked if he could use them and some floral foam that was in a bin right next to the wreaths to decorate a set of decorative tins we had found two days before at the Christmas Tree Shops so that's what they did!
Evan assembled the flowers he chose, the foam blocks and our Christmas Tree Shop tins together and just began grouping flowers together until he had a look that he liked. We cut the ends off the flowers and just jabbed them into the foam.

Alec gather together his flowers, his wreath and a small sequined bird he found at the Dollar Store and began placing the flowers and leaves around the wreath until he had an arrangement he liked and then he broke out the glue gun to glue them all in place; filling in with more leaves when he thought he needed them.

He finished by adding his bird and then we hung it on our door to see how it looked.

Soooo pretty, they did so good. I love the tins and the addition of the bird to the wreath was genius and such a sweet touch!
ReplyDeleteI thought they did a great job too and now that I see the tins all decorated, I really want to head back to the Christmas Tree shop and see what other shapes and styles they had available.

ReplyDeleteI often rope my boys into helping but it's getting harder and harder to get them excited about it. I was glad they they wanted to help this time.
