Love to Learn Hop- The Birds of Florida

We had such a wonderful time on our vacation to Florida checking out all the shore birds.  Since we were there in October many of the migratory birds of the gulf coast were all around us.  Some of our favorite birds to watch were the pelicans and the herons (of which we say many varieties!)

This heron flew right up onto our deck!  That's my foot in the picture so you can see just how close he came.

It is so wonderful to get to see and experience so many birds in the wild while just relaxing on vacation.  I love these real life nature lessons and we always try to make the most of them.

What are some of your favorite ways to learn or to teach your children?  I'd love to hear all about it.

While you're here, I hope you'll join us!

    1. Glad we could help! I'd love to take credit but my middle son identified most of the birds for me. If he didn't know the exact bird he could tell me the basic species and then I Googled a few terms he told me.

I'd have to say my favorite was the night heron; probably because he was memorable (if a bit scary!). He stayed on our deck for the longest time and we even saw him walking around on top of the patio table.

  3. I am NOT a fan of pet birds, but I DO love seeing birds like these, out in the wild! So fun that you got to enjoy so many while you were here!
