Pam · P.S. I Love You Crafts
For my ornament craft I decided to try re-creating an ornament craft that I had made 16 years ago when my husband and I first got married.
First I found a few rubber stamps I liked and stamped them on tissue paper using permanent ink (water soluble ink will bleed so you don't want to use anything water based).
First I found a few rubber stamps I liked and stamped them on tissue paper using permanent ink (water soluble ink will bleed so you don't want to use anything water based).
Then I cut around the image and set it aside. If I was adding color using colored pencils, this is when I added the color too.
I turned the ornament over and rested it over the bottle to make sure any excess floor cleaner I didn't need drained out. I just wanted a nice thin coating.
While the pledge was draining out of the ornament I lightly rolled up my image with the right side on the outside. This step makes it possible to get the image inside the ornament.
I gently add my image into the ornament trying to make sure that the middle of my rolled up image lands on the flat side of my glass ornament. The wet pledge floor cleaner makes it stick but I can gently move the image or smooth it out (as close to wrinkle free as I can get it) with the eraser side of a pencil or a slightly bent Q-tip.
Once I have the image the way I like it I pour some fine glitter into the ornament, put my finger over the hole, and give it a good shake until the entire inside of the ornament is coated with glitter. The pledge floor care stays sticky for a bit until it completely dries and it holds the glitter beautifully against the ornament. If I need more glitter; I add it. If I have too much glitter left in the bottom of the ornament then I just shake it out over the container.

Plugging the hole and shaking the glitter inside. |
I set the ornaments back into the original container to dry without putting the tops back on. I gave them a good 24 hours to dry.
I put the tops back on the ornaments and add a bit of decorative ribbon to finish them off.
Oh wow, this is SUCH a cute idea! I've never seen anything like it. I'm sure Phil really appreciated them. :)

ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteI've never seen this done before! I love it! What a fun craft!
ReplyDeleteThank you! I had so much fun I just bought a dozen more ornaments to make the family.
DeleteYour ornaments are so cute! I especially love the reindeer. Great tutorial, too. Pinning.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the pin and the compliment.
DeleteMemory tree is a good way to put it. Our ornaments have been collected from all our various moves while hubby was in the army and since he retired. Each one reminds us where we were living when we got it.
ReplyDeleteI have always wanted to try these ornaments! Thanks for the great tutorial.
Most of our ornaments feature vacations or skills learned; baby's first plane ride, baby's first step, Hershey park, etc. I love that each time we open the boxes up we all start talking about each trip or skill and memories even of past Christmases when the ornaments were given as gifts. It's a wonderful walk down memory lane that I know my boys will continue long after they move out of our house.
DeleteYou're welcome for the tutorial. I found so many great ornaments I want to try making through this blog hop.
What a great idea to add an image to an ornament. Love the tree one!

ReplyDeleteThanks for the pin! Glad you liked my ornament tutorial.
DeleteI never knew you would add images and then put glitter over it. Do you add more floor cleaner to coat the back of the image to get the glitter to stick? Thanks for sharing your tutorial and joining the #2017OrnamentExchange.
ReplyDeleteNope I only added the one coat in the beginning. Thanks for putting this whole exchange together I had such a great time.
DeleteI had no idea you could make ornaments like these with stamps, pledge & glitter! So creative!

ReplyDeleteThank you! I'm partial to the snowman myself; I love snowmen and the color blue!
DeleteWow, I love these! I would never have thought about tissue paper with ink pads, let alone inside an ornament. Seriously creative!
ReplyDeleteThank you! I'm sure I saw these somewhere along the way as I don't think I would have thought to do that either. But once I made them (years and years ago) the idea really stuck with me since they were such a hit.
DeleteLooking at these, I would have never thought they were made with tissue paper and an ink pad. So pretty and such a great idea!
