How to make Rubber Stamp and Glitter Ornaments with the 2017 Ornament Exchange and Blog Hop

Welcome to the 2017 Ornament Exchange & Blog Hop! This year, there are 47 amazing bloggers participating in the exchange. The rules of the challenge were simple: be partnered with a fellow blogger, create a handmade ornament for $15 or under, create a tutorial, and ship the ornament off to a new home!

I was paired up with Pili from My Sweet Things.  After talking with Pili  (through social media) we agreed that we were paired up beautifully! Turns out both of our trees tend to be decorated with an assortment of ornaments that our families have collected over the years with no real rhyme or reason.  We have what I affectionately refer to as "memory trees"; each ornament brings back a memory for us.  She did ask that I not use anything gold or foam and I readily agreed.

For my ornament craft I decided to try re-creating an ornament craft that I had made 16 years ago when my husband and I first got married.

First I found a few rubber stamps I liked and stamped them on tissue paper using permanent ink (water soluble ink will bleed so you don't want to use anything water based).

Then I cut around the image and set it aside.  If I was adding color using colored pencils, this is when I added the color too.

I coated the inside of my clear glass ornament with a squirt/ layer of pledge floor care.  

I turned the ornament over and rested it over the bottle to make sure any excess floor cleaner I didn't need drained out.  I just wanted a nice thin coating. 

While the pledge was draining out of the ornament I lightly rolled up my image with the right side on the outside.  This step makes it possible to get the image inside the ornament. 

I gently add my image into the ornament trying to make sure that the middle of my rolled up image lands on the flat side of my glass ornament.  The wet pledge floor cleaner makes it stick but I can gently move the image or smooth it out (as close to wrinkle free as I can get it) with the eraser side of a pencil or a slightly bent Q-tip. 

Once I have the image the way I like it I pour some fine glitter into the ornament, put my finger over the hole, and give it a good shake until the entire inside of the ornament is coated with glitter.  The pledge floor care stays sticky for a bit until it completely dries and it holds the glitter beautifully against the ornament.  If I need more glitter; I add it.  If I have too much glitter left in the bottom of the ornament then I just shake it out over the container.

I set the ornaments back into the original container to dry without putting the tops back on. I gave them a good 24 hours to dry. 

I put the tops back on the ornaments and add a bit of decorative ribbon to finish them off.
