Checking out the Chihuly Exhibit and the Dali Museum
Alec and I had planned to check out two of the art museums by ourselves while my husband took our oldest son deep sea fishing but we could not get the day and time to mesh. So my husband took a morning to go with Alec and I to the museums and we had a great time.
By far our favorite was the Chihuly exhibit. There were some truly amazing works of art; we just could not get over all the work that must have gone into making these huge blown glass sculptures.
We were a bit less impressed with the Dali museum, mostly because we are not huge fans of surrealism; the school of art the Dali mostly founded and adhered to. We did find many of his optical illusion paintings on display and all agreed that whether or not we enjoyed his style of work he did have amazing talent.
Pictures were not allowed in the museum (and in fact I was not even able to bring my mini backpack purse in with me) so I only have two pictures of the actual building; which in itself is a work of art!

Can you see all the textures? Amazing isn't it? |

I love the Chihuly exhibit!! We saw a much smaller scale exhibit in Columbus at Christmas and it was gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteWe LOVED it! We kept saying how amazing everything was... and there was so much more that I hadn't even photographed.
DeleteWhat a fascinating exhibit!
ReplyDeleteIt really was!
DeleteBeautiful! I love his work... we are lucky to have a restaurant in town with one of his chandeliers. I might not love the food but its so lovely to sit under!
ReplyDeleteIt really is amazing; I just love blown or stained glass art of any kind but his large statement pieces are just mind boggling.
DeleteI remember doing a whole project on Dali at college, I love all of the colours. Sarah #ExplorerKids
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteWhat a fabulous exhibition the colours are amazing! Mandy #ExplorerKids
ReplyDeleteIt was unbelievable to see all the details up close and I often remarked on how he used his colors with little flecks here or whole little stripes there...
DeleteI saw an exhibit similar in Seattle. Beautiful. That you can do these things with glass! The colors are stunning! #explorerkids
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing to think they can sculpt glass like this... I often wonder how many fires/ tries they need to get the finished piece. I'm sure some of them have got to shatter..
DeleteIt looks amazing but I would not trust my 21 month old anywhere near those lovely sculptures x

Oh yes, that would be scary. As it was I kept reminding my 11 year old not to get to close!
