The Road Not Taken

We were out walking the other day and I had my camera in hand, as usual.  I was struck by the beauty of the changing leaves and enjoying our journey when I framed a few photos in my lens and immediately was struck by the Robert Frost poem The Road Not Taken.

I had always loved that poem.

If you aren't familiar with it it goes like this:

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth:

Then took the other, as just as fair
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Tough as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black,
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I-
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

I could not help hearing those last few lines echoing in my head... I took the one less traveled by and that has made all the difference!

While homeschooling is certainly gaining in popularity it is by no means the norm.  It has not always been easy to leave the path that all others were following and strike out on our own... but it has made all the difference.

Each day that passes I marvel at how different our lives have become.  I marvel over all that we are able to do and experience together.  I am struck by how much my kids have grown, changed, and am so thankful that I have been there to see it all along the way.

We get to forge our own path and while we always know we can go back (to public school) right now we are all quite happy and content keeping to the one less traveled by.

I am so thankful for this lifestyle we have.
