52 Lists weeks #38: Our Family Traditions
We have quite a few family traditions; though I'm not sure I can call them all traditions since after a few years I try to shake things up and change them a bit. See while I love the idea of family traditions I often get bored with them or our kids outgrow them and we have to change them. Yet we still consider them traditions!
This week's list: list your family's traditions got me thinking about everything that we do as a family and in particular those that we tend to do together year after year. Pretty much the definition of tradition right?
Well here are some of our favorites:
- Annual summer trip to Canobie Lake Park
- Going apple picking in the fall
- Making apple pies one night as a family
- Baking Christmas cookies together
- Buying on new ornament each to put on our Christmas tree (usually the ornament symbolizes something special about that year)
- We have an Easter Egg hunt with family on Easter morning and then my family heads to the movies
- Every 4th of July we have a huge family cookout at the lake
- Each August we get together as a family to have a picnic and remember a loved one that passed way to soon
- Friday night family movies through the fall and winter
- Watching ELF each Thanksgiving weekend while we put up our tree
What types of family traditions do you have (and keep?).

Love all of these! I have never been to a lake, much less had a cookout by one. And what a nice tradition to gather together as a family to remember someone who passed away. I hope it continues to bring you comfort.
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteLovely! We love our traditions and I think they might get even more important as the children get older.
ReplyDeleteI think so too; I know many of the traditions we carry on with our kids are traditions we had growing up too.

ReplyDeleteTraditions are so much fun! ...and I agree that sometimes that need a little tweaking :) Your August picnic sounds memorable and special.
ReplyDeleteThey really are!
DeleteGreat traditions! Even the simple ones make for wonderful memories. Elf is one of our favorite movies to watch every Christmas season too, by the way.
ReplyDeleteSo very true. I don't think traditions have to be elaborate to be important.
DeleteLove your list! We also do the Christmas ornament tradition, it's such a fun way to add a special little touch to the tree. Summer lake trips also sound like a great idea and something I'd like to try in the future.
ReplyDeleteMy kids look forward to their ornament each year eager to see what they're getting. It's so fun to pull them out each year and remember too.
