Our Weekly Wrap Up: Egg Drop Week
We had such a wonderful and busy week. We spent lots of time with family and friends. We spent lots of time outside enjoying the sunshine and crisp spring air. We had a lot of fun with our schoolwork too; playing lots of games and hosting an egg drop.
We went walking along the river after running a few errands and shopping with the boys gift cards. Then we went to a birthday party with their cousins aunts and grandparents
I love watching these two play and holding hands! |
Saturday we replaced our washing machine and Alec helped with hooking up the hand truck and squeezing into all the tight spaces in our hallway. Both of the younger boys went to drop our old washer off at the scrap yard; eager to see what a scrap yard was like. Ian spent the day working with his grandfather cleaning up sticks and brush.
Sunday the younger boys, myself and my husband went hiking in the woods for close to 5 miles. We hiked all the way to another family member's house and spent a bit of time visiting. Ian went to work with his grandfather cleaning up even more sticks.
Monday we did some schoolwork and then hiked for an hour and a half hike at the dam with their cousins. They played kayaking, kick ball, had jumping contests off the swing, played chase and enjoyed lots of time outside. They had so much fun at the dam playing on the waterfall and watching for snakes (we saw three of them)

Isn't he scary?! |
We saw lots of turtles sunning themselves |
They ended the day with a small kayak trip around our house |
Tuesday we completed our schoolwork and quickly set to work on our egg drop contraptions. Each of the boys worked really hard to make sure their eggs would survive.
Wednesday we hit the books hard knowing that we were going to be too busy to do any schoolwork for another 5 days! Ian left to go shopping and out to lunch with his grandmother while the younger boys and I headed to the library.
Thursday we had friends over for an egg drop! You can read all about it here. The younger two boys spent the day running around and playing with friends after the egg drop was over. Evan ended up spraining his ankle and spent most of the day sitting and swinging. Alec decided to test the water and next thing I knew he was swimming! Ian had left to go out to lunch and shopping with another grandmother but as soon as he returned and saw Alec in the water he decided to go swimming too! That water was freezzing!
Book work:
Math: By the end of the week my boys had completed 6 more math workbook pages each with the older two boys also completing two pages in their Are You a Math Genius? books.
Reading-- We finished up The39 Clues book 1; Maze of Bones and started book two:One False Note. Evan read Lionel's Birthday; just a half chapter a day and finished it up this week. Ian read a few more chapters Treasure Hunters book 3 and Love That Dog. Alec read a few more chapters in Atlantis Rising, read Lionel's Birthday and started another Humphrey book.
Science-- Alec read One Square Pond, Here is the Southwestern Desert, and Here is the Tropical Rain Forest. Evan and I read through his Ranger Rick Jr magazine learning all about birds and baby animals. He also learned the sigh for butterfly!
Life skills-- Evan went to work with my husband over the weekend helping him make our new dock. Both Evan and Alec went to the scrap yard to get rid of our old washing machine. Ian worked all weekend with his grandfather clearing up brush and picking up sticks. Alec made a double batch of pancakes one morning this week; making sure to add and reduce fractions. All three boys made dinner one night this week. Alec made pizzas for us all one night; yum!
Spelling/ Language Arts-- They all completed two more pages in their spelling books. Evan also worked on two more pages in his Star Wars reading book. They each completed another page in their journals using a Draw Write Now book after Evan pointed out to me that it's been awhile since they had written anything.
Bonus fun: Ian got a new remote control boat and both him and Evan spent one day playing in the water using the remote control boat and hover craft. Alec pulled out markers and our dry erase board and created some pictures of a faraway land with cotton candy trees and mountains with waterfalls.
They crashed! |
What a wonderfully filled with! We would have LOVED to see the snake and go walking along the water! I love all of the books you and your guys are reading too!
ReplyDeleteWe sure have found some great ones to read lately!
DeleteI'd be running from the snakes too!! Your post brought back fond memories of the egg drops we had in elementary school. I'm glad everyone had a great time, minus the sprained ankle.
ReplyDeleteI have fond memories of my egg drop from my years in school and I think that's what prompted me to make sure I did it with my boys. I am not a fan of snakes but as long as I can keep an eye on it and it's a nice small baby one I'm OK enough though I was slowly backing away from it and that picture was taken with a zoom!
DeleteWe did an egg drop a few years ago. It was so much fun. You all had some great outside fun this week.
ReplyDeleteBlessings, Dawn
We took full advantage of all the nice weather; so glad we did too it's been raining for the last two days.
DeleteI have never heard of an egg drop! How much fun!
ReplyDeleteIt was wonderful! The kids had such a great time; as excited as they were that their eggs survived they all wanted to keep trying to drop their eggs and break them.
DeleteWhat a fun week! The adventure to the dam looked wonderful especially the waterfall and kayaking. My daughter recently went kayaking during camp and fell in love. Such a neat experience.
ReplyDeleteWe are quite lucky to have a few kayaks of our own and that is one of our favorite past times; in summer we'll often go out right before breakfast and we're usually the only people on the lake. It's so relaxing and peaceful and we get to see lots of wildlife that way too!
DeleteWhat a fun week! I love all the outdoor activities, and games are so much fun to cover so many subjects! The egg drop sounds like an awesome experiment! Thanks for sharing with #SocialButterflySunday! Hope to see you link up again this week :)
ReplyDeleteI sure plan to! Thanks for visiting.
