Making Mason Jar Luminaries for Winter
We made winter themed luminaries today. It was simple and fun and the perfect craft for a dull, dreary, rainy. cold day!
Our supplies:
Our supplies:
- Mason Jars (without the lids)
- School Glue
- Water
- Painbrush
- Salt
- Paper punch-- snowflake design
- White copy paper
- Ribbon
- Tea light candle
- Optional: we used two small paper plates to catch and re-use the salt
- First we cut out a few snowflakes using our paper punches and the white paper. Just three or four each since our snowflakes were pretty large. Then we decided where we wanted to place our snowflakes.
- Next we mixed just a bit of water into our school glue so it would spread nicely. We started by gluing on one snowflake on the jar and filling the area around it with glue too. While the glue was wet we sprinkled on some salt.

- We kept working our way all around the jar until all the sides had some snowflakes on them and it was filled with glue and salt. (We did have some drips and some gaps and parts where the salt was thicker than others but the kids didn't mind and I figured that is what makes them handmade by kids!).
- We set them aside to dry. Once dry we tied a ribbon around the top of the jar and put a tea light candle inside.
Voila! A perfect winter luminary!
They look so beautiful. It's indeed a great idea for the winter. A very creative project.

DeleteThese look lovely. I've been saving jars and they will be perfect for this craft. I'm visiting from the Crafty Link party.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I think this craft lends itself so nicely to any type of jar; as long as it's wide enough for a candle it would work.
DeleteHow pretty! I bet they sparkle beautifully with the candle inside. Thanks for linking up to Funtastic Friday!
