Seaside Exploring

We spent the day near the ocean yesterday.

It was a beautiful sunny day and perfect for exploring.

We met up with lots of family and had a picnic, watched the planes skywriting, checked out the fort, climbed on rocks, and went swimming.

You can't tell from this picture but there are 5 planes working together to make these messages!
The kids used metal detectors to find "treasure" on the beach (bottle caps and an old flattened coin).

They caught crabs and snails, found some egg sacks and a quahog.  Ian used the net to catch some minnows and a hermit crab too.  It was a perfect day filled with all sorts of wonderful science discoveries.

They found a large one!

Evan was so excited to cut open this pod and see the seeds inside

now that's a huge clam! (also known as a quahog)
We're 90% certain all the reddish orange dots on this rock are crab eggs

We went out to dinner at a nearby marina and the boys had a blast walking up and down all the gangways checking out all the boats while waiting for our food; seafood of course.  We had a beautiful view and enjoyed looking through the clear water to watch the crabs scuttling all around.
